● to부정사: 형용사, 부사 수식
to부정사가 형용사나 바로 부사 뒤에 위치해 수식할 경우에는 ‘…하기에는 ～하다’ 또는 ‘…할 정도로 ～하다’로 해석한다. 종종 as가 to 앞에 오기도 한다.
eg. Popcorn is good to eat. 팝콘은 먹기에 좋다.
Is it hot enough to go swimming? 수영하러 갈 정도로 덥니?

● to부정사: 문장 전체 수식
to부정사가 콤마(comma)를 통해 문장 맨 앞이나 중간에 삽입될 경우 문장 전체를 수식하기도 한다. 관용적 표현임으로 숙어처럼 암기해 두는 게 좋다.
eg. To be honest, he is not smart. 정직하게 말하면, 그는 똑똑하지 않다.
He is, so to speak, a bookworm. 그는 말하자면 책벌레이다.
