조선통신사에 관한 기록은, 1607년부터 1811년까지, 일본 에도막부의 초청으로 12회에 걸쳐, 조선국에서 일본국으로 파견되었던 외교사절단에 관한 자료를 총칭하는 것이다. 이 자료는 역사적인 경위로 인해 한국과 일본에 소재하고 있다.

따라서, 이 기록은 양국의 역사적 경험으로 증명된 평화적ㆍ지적 유산으로, 항구적인 평화공존관계와 타문화 존중을 지향해야 할 인류공통의 과제를 해결하는데 있어서 현저하고 보편적인 가치를 가진다.
"Documents on Joseon Tongsinsa/Chosen Tsushinshi(Korean Embassies): The History of Peace Building and Cultural Exchanges between korea and Japan from the 17th to 19th Century" comprises materials related to 12 diplomatic missions dispatched from Korea to Japan between 1607 and 1811 at the request of japan's Shogunate government. The missions contributed to restoring diplomatic relations between the two countries, which had been severed due to the invasion of Korea ordered by Toyotomi Hideyoshi(Jaoan's ruler) in the late 16th century, and to maintaining peaceful relations. The nominated documents, which have been in custody in both countries, comprise diplomatic documents, travel records, and cultural exchange records, all of which testify to the importance of the missions in promoting reconciliation, mutual understanding, and interactions in the diplomatic, cultural, and industrial spheres.
