The little box continues growing
The cupboard that she was inside
Is now inside her

바스코 포파(Vasco popa,1922~1991)는 현대 유고슬라비아 문학을 대표하는 시인으로 1922년 세르비아 브리샤츠 지방의 작은 마을 그레베나츠에서 태어나 1991년 사망할 때까지 생애의 대부분을 조국의 베오그라드에서 보냈다. 38년간 시작 활동을 통해 총 여덟 권의 시집을 낸 그는 모든 작품을 세르보크로아트어로 썼으며, 제2차 세계대전의 소용돌이 속에서 프랑스 초현실주의를 접하게 되었다. 1952년에 출간된 그의 첫 시집 《껍질》을 그 혁신성과 실험성으로 전후 유고슬라비아 모더니즘 문학의 신호탄이 되었다는 평가를 받고 있다. 1968년 오스트리아 정부가 수여하는 유럽문학상을 수상하기도 했다. 이 시도 세계명시 100선에 선정된 시입니다.
