Texas will lift its mask requirement and allow businesses to reopen at full capacity next week. The announcement rattled doctors and big city leaders who said they are now bracing for another deadly resurgence. Texas, where the virus has killed more than 43,000 people, is the largest US state to end its mask mandate.

Republican Governor Greg Abbott has faced criticism from his party over the measure, which was imposed last July. The move follows reopenings in other states, putting them at odds with the Biden administration.

Federal health officials this week urgently warned states to not let their guard down, warning that the pandemic is far from over.

Scientists have unearthed fossils of what may be the oldest-known member of the dinosaur group known as titanosaurs that includes the largest land animals in Earth's history. Researchers said on Monday the fossils represent a dinosaur species named Ninjatitan zapatai that lived 140 million years ago. They identified Ninjatitan as a titanosaur, a group of long-necked plant-eating dinosaurs that walked on four pillar-like legs.

The dinosaur's incomplete skeletal remains were discovered in Argentina's Patagonian wilderness. Researchers said Ninjatitan demonstrated that the titanosaurs as a group first appeared longer ago than previously known.

The find does support the idea that titanosaurs originated in the Southern Hemisphere.

A small porcelain bowl bought for $35 at a yard sale in the US state of Connecticut turned out to be a rare, 15th century Chinese artifact worth up to $500,000. The white bowl adorned with cobalt blue paintings of flowers and other designs is about 16 centimeters in diameter.

An antiques enthusiast came across the piece while browsing a yard sale last year and thought it could be something special. The piece, one of only seven such bowls known to exist in the world, will be up for auction in New York on March 17 as part of Sotheby’s Auction of Important Chinese Art.
