Folsom Prison Blues는 US 컨트리 가수 자니 캐쉬(Johnny Cash)가 1955년 발표한 곡으로 1968년 재발매 해, 캐나다 17위, US 32위, 컨트리 1위 등을 기록했고 롤링 스톤 선정 '역사상 가장 위대한 500곡'에 포함되어 2004년 164위, 2010년 163위에 올랐다. 그래미 컨트리 퍼포먼스 부문을 수상했다.
자니가 만들고 샘 필립스(Sam Philips)가 프로듀서를 맡았다. US 공군에 입대해 서독에서 근무할 때 영화 <Inside The Walls Of Folsom Prison (1951)>을 보고 영감을 얻어 만들었다. 자니는 인터뷰에서 “그가 죽는 걸 보려고 한 남자를 리노에서 쏘았지("But I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die")”란 가사를 되 뇌이며 곡을 구상했어요. 펜을 들고 앉아 사람이 사람을 죽이는 최악의 이유를 생각했죠, 그렇게 해서 가사가 생겨났어요”라고 말했다. 멜로디는 고든 젠킨스(Gorden Jenkins)의 1953년 앨범 <Seven Dreams>에서 많이 가져왔다. 특히 Crescent City Blues란 곡에서 많이 베꼈다. 이 곡이 히트한 후 1970년대 초반에 자니는 고든에게 약 7만 5천 달러의 합의금을 물어줘야 했다.
1968년 폴섬 감옥에서 공연한 것을 녹음한 라이브 앨범 <At Folsom Prison>의 버전이 더 유명하고 좋은 평가를 받는다. 자니의 생애를 그린 제임스 맨골드(James Mangold) 감독의 2005년 영화 <앙코르(Walk The Line)>는 자니의 폴섬 교도소 공연으로 첫 장면을 시작한다. 결혼생활의 실패와 약물중독 등으로 힘들던 자니는 교도소 수감자들을 위한 위문공연을 기획하지만 음반사는 자니가 보수적인 남부인들을 팬층으로 확보하고 있다는 점을 들어 반대한다. 하지만 자니는 사회로부터 소외된 교도소 수감자들이말로 자신의 음악을 필요로 할 수도 있다는 생각으로 밀어붙여 큰 대중적 공감을 얻어낸다. 자니는 음악인생을 통틀어 감옥에 관한 노래와 기차를 소재로 한 곡을 많이 했는데, 그 중에서도 이 곡은 가장 많이 알려지고 좋은 평가를 받는 곡이다.
