조동사가 여러 개일 경우 마지막 조동사 뒤에 온다.

● 주로 과거완료시제와 함께 쓰여 어떤 일 뒤에 곧바로 다른 일이 발생하는 경우를 표현한다.

문어체에서는 어순이 도치되기도 한다.

그의 청혼을 승낙하자마자 그녀는 의심하기 시작했소.
● 부정의 의미를 강조하기 위해 부정어나 준부정어를 문두에 보낼 경우 도치

● never, no, nobody, hardly, scarcely, little 등의 부정어가 있으면 부가의문문은 긍정으로 쓴다.
